For Parents / Carers

As a parent/carer, you play a vital role in supporting your child’s career journey. While you're not expected to have all the answers, we understand that in a constantly evolving world, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest options and opportunities available. The choices your child makes now can shape their future, and your guidance and support is essential in helping them to navigate these important decisions with confidence.

This section is designed to provide you with useful information and resources to support your child as they explore different career pathways, from further education to apprenticeships and beyond. By understanding the options available and engaging in open discussions, you can help your child make informed decisions that align with their interests, strengths, and ambitions.

Qualifications

There are a number of different types of qualifications that your child can study after Year 11, please visit the links below to find out more about the options that are available.

Supporting your child with their Post 16 options

If your child would like to stay at FSG for Sixth Form, they will apply through SIMS Options (internal applicants) in January. For other sixth forms and colleges applications should be made via the Kent Choices platform. Your child was issued their login to their school email account at the start of October.

It is important to note, that your child can accept offers from multiple providers and opt to make their final decision on where to go during results day. This provides them with options and makes it easier for them to decide what to do next should their exams go better or worse than expected.

The KentChoices podcast provides useful information to help you support your child with their next steps, more information can also be found on our Post-16 options page for students.

Where can I find information about careers?

Unifrog

Unifrog is an excellent platform available to all students at FSG, and it can also be a great resource for you to support your child. The platform features a comprehensive Careers library, providing your child with quick access to information on various career options and the qualifications or pathways leading to them. Unifrog also includes a live bank of apprenticeship opportunities, up-to-date details on universities in the UK and abroad, and tools to help your child write a personal statement and create a CV.

Parents/Carers at FSG will soon be able to create their own account on Unifrog. An email will be sent later this term with instructions on how you can get started.

How can I get involved in FSG's career programme?

We are eager to highlight the diverse range of careers and industries represented within our school community. If you or your organisation would be willing to support one or more of the above events throughout the year, I would be very grateful. Please email FSGCareers@folkestonegirls.kent.sch.uk for more information on how you can get involved.

How can I provide feedback?

We value parent/carer feedback and use it to continuously enhance our careers programme at FSG. Each academic year, we survey parents and carers to gather your insights, ensuring our programme continues to meet the needs of your child.

If you have a question or would like to provide feedback at other times throughout the year, please contact Mr. Konrad Eke, Directors of Careers and Leadership Learning, via the school. Please use the dedicated email address FSGCareers@folkestonegirls.kent.sch.uk for this.
