Youth Speaks 2026 - FSG teams triumph

5 Feb 2026

On Thursday six students travelled to Brockhill Park to take part in the Rotary Club's "Youth Speaks" competition in two categories, intermediate and senior.

In year 8, for the intermediate category, Mirabelle, Saoirse, and Scarlett did a fantastic job of coordinating their group effort on the topic of The importance of the human factor in an AI world. Saoirse deftly handled the question from the floor after a beautifully delivered speech, Mirabelle managed her team expertly and even though the organiser accidentally cut Scarlett off early, she managed to impress the judges. Stiff competition came from both Brockhill and the Marsh (the latter doing particularly well in the audience's estimation).

In year 12, Bethany's masterly management of a stellar team against opposition from the hosts, Brockhill began the FSG effort; Tiffany's vibrant and enthusiastic main speech on National Service and its benefits, and Suri's smooth closing vote of thanks left judges and audience alike very impressed with the "high standard" of competition.

Both teams won their categories and Mr Mannerings said that "it was a pleasure to supervise them, well done all!"

Special thanks to Mr Lester for stepping in last minute to drive the students to/from the contest and similarly to Mr Hager for martialling the senior team and pointing them in the winning direction!
