The Benenden STEM convention in November was a wonderful event, which provided our 6th form STEM students with an opportunity to present their research in a scientific poster format, or more formally, as a presentation (or both), giving them a unique experience in a friendly, yet professional setting. The students were truly treated at the event, as they also heard some of latest research from experts in the field, from the University of Bristol and the London School of Economics and Political Science, and met with professionals from a range of careers at the careers stalls. One group of our students was shortlisted for Benenden STEM Award - a huge achievement, and they delivered a fantastic presentation on 'AI’s Dark Survival Drive'. Furthermore, we had success on the day, with another of our poster entries winning the environmental category with their poster on 'Why do birds learn bird song, and how is brain development measured in birds?'
