Cloud Busting performances praised
Well done to all the students who took part in Cloud Busting, part of Connections, the National Theatre's nationwide youth theatre festival.
This year's play was once again completely produced by the students, including set design, sound and lighting design, costume and prop making was also been organised and created by students. The logo for the flyer was designed and created by a student and the marketing around the school has also been student led. The full student company ranges across students from all year groups, and they performed the play 4 times in total, 2 public performances and one performance for Yr7 and another for Yr8 on the stage in the main school hall.
The show was a youth-focused play written by Helen Blakeman and based on the novel by Malorie Blackman. The play explored themes of friendship, bullying, and individuality as a boy named Sam stands up for his unique peer, Davey. The play is known for its ensemble work and emotional, coming-of-age themes. It was a powerful piece of modern storytelling and we hope that managed to get to see it, if not then there is one more chance as the students will be performing it again at The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury on Wednesday 22nd April.
Mr Lester's review!
"Cloud Busting was a brilliant evening out - a great night's entertainment with a very relevant message for the students, with its central themes around bullying and kindness.
There were so many standout performances, but I find it inspiring to reflect on how the entire production was student led - from choosing the play, casting, directing, set design, sound and lights, backstage and designing the programme. It was all the students, which makes this performance, our third, stand out.
I see the friendships built, the teamwork, memories to last a lifetime. Well done."
