An introduction to the department
Fundamental to the aims of the school being achieved is a
realisation that the learning and development of a pupil is a
partnership between parents, teachers and students based upon mutual
respect and high expectations. The overall aim is to deliver the
highest quality of education and achieve excellent examination
results. The overall aims are sub-divided into smaller, more
tangible aims.
Aims:
1. To develop, maintain and stimulate
the students’ curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Psychology,
Sociology and Health and Social Care.
2. To develop the skills, language,
concepts, principles and methods necessary to analyse, interpret and
evaluate appropriate theories and research.
3. To encourage students to develop
personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative,
empathy, self-confidence and independence.
4. To enable all students to work
independently and in groups.
5. To enable all students to have
equal access to the subject areas and to experience high
self-esteem, a sense of optimism, and a feeling of success.
6. To allow students to develop
transferable skills and informed opinions about relevant theories
and research and to be able to support them by reasonable arguments.
To encourage professional development in all
members of the department.
