An introduction to the department

Fundamental to the aims of the school being achieved is a realisation that the learning and development of a pupil is a partnership between parents, teachers and students based upon mutual respect and high expectations. The overall aim is to deliver the highest quality of education and achieve excellent examination results. The overall aims are sub-divided into smaller, more tangible aims.

Aims:

1. To develop, maintain and stimulate the students’ curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Psychology, Sociology and Health and Social Care.

2. To develop the skills, language, concepts, principles and methods necessary to analyse, interpret and evaluate appropriate theories and research.

3. To encourage students to develop personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative, empathy, self-confidence and independence.

4. To enable all students to work independently and in groups.

5. To enable all students to have equal access to the subject areas and to experience high self-esteem, a sense of optimism, and a feeling of success.

6. To allow students to develop transferable skills and informed opinions about relevant theories and research and to be able to support them by reasonable arguments.

To encourage professional development in all members of the department.
